About

Joust is a 1982 action arcade game developed and published by Williams Electronics. In the game, players take on the role of knights riding large flying birds - an ostrich for Player 1 and a stork for Player 2 - each armed with a lance. The objective is to defeat enemy knights mounted on buzzards and other foes by colliding with them from above while navigating single-screen levels filled with floating platforms. Joust was praised for its unique premise and highly enjoyable gameplay. While not the first cooperative multiplayer game, its success and refined execution helped popularize the concept of two-player cooperative arcade gaming. The game remains well-regarded as a classic from the golden age of arcades.
